The relationship between cannabis and veterans can be complicated. While cannabis as a treatment helps veterans with conditions, marijuana remains classified as an illegal substance federally making it difficult for VA medical facilities to recommend it as a treatment option even in states where it has been legalized.
Research on medical issues that commonly plague veterans (chronic pain, PTSD, and others) in relation to cannabis is ongoing. Regardless of the outcome of these studies, many veterans are calling for a change in the restrictions that make it difficult for them to use or be prescribed medical marijuana.
